TEÁOR’25: How Hungary New Activity Codes Affect Companies

As of 1 January 2025, Hungary uses TEÁOR’25 to classify business activities. This new system replaces TEÁOR’08 and aligns with the EU’s NACE Rev. 2.1 standard. Companies must review their registered activities and update them where needed.

These codes are recorded in the Company Register, reflected in the Articles of Association (AoA), and used in tax filings. Each company must have a main activity and may list additional ones.

Why is Hungary updating business activity classifications?

TEÁOR’25 reflects structural changes in Hungary’s economy and ensures consistency with EU standards. Some activities have been split or renamed. Because of this, companies must carefully review their current codes and choose the correct new ones.

Hungary’s Tax Authority (NAV) has already updated main activities. However, companies must now check and, if necessary, update their secondary activities manually.

What are the deadlines for companies in Hungary?

1 January 2025: TEÁOR’25 became effective.

31 January 2025: NAV completed automatic updates for main activities.

1 July 2025: Deadline for Hungarian companies to update secondary activities and submit amendments to NAV and the Court of Registry.

If your listed activity changed or no longer fits the new classification, your company must file a correction by this date.

How to amend your Articles of Association in Hungary?

If your AoA includes secondary activities, they must be updated to reflect TEÁOR’25. You can file this update with the Court of Registry.

You may submit it either on its own or together with other corporate changes. There is no procedural or publication fee if filed separately.

What should you do if Hungary’s NAV assigned the wrong activity?

In cases where NAV assigned an incorrect code as your main activity, you may submit a change request. This must be done by 1 July 2025 to correct your entry in the official register.

Why do TEÁOR codes matter in Hungary?

TEÁOR codes are not shown on invoices and don’t limit what your company may offer. However, they are used in regulatory checks, annual surveys by KSH, and during banking procedures.

KSH will ask for your company’s revenue breakdown per activity each year. Likewise, banks often request your activity list when opening or updating accounts.

Starting a new company in Hungary? Choose TEÁOR codes carefully

When registering a company in Hungary, you must choose a main activity using the TEÁOR’25 classification. You may add other activities later.

Selecting the correct codes during setup helps you avoid delays, reduces administrative errors, and ensures long-term compliance.

Final Steps before the July 2025 deadline

TEÁOR’25 is now in full effect. The 1 July 2025 deadline is approaching fast. Companies in Hungary must act without delay. Review your activity codes, update your Articles of Association if needed, and file all necessary changes on time.

Need help with the ÖNACE 2025 update?

Hungary’s move to TEÁOR’25 is part of a broader shift across the EU to harmonise business classification. The entire legal and statistical system in Hungary now depends on this updated framework.

Companies must confirm their activity codes, revise their AoA if required, and ensure timely filings. Delaying these updates risks non-compliance and administrative complications.
